Academic 1 Building establishes precedent of the University’s commitment to sustainability and resilience for this mixed-use innovation campus, set as the anchor of North Potomac Yard’s first phase.
Integrated lighting in the facade reacts to and captures the sun’s light and energy using numerous photovoltaic technologies complementing the project’s ecosystem designed entirely around reduced carbon emissions. Utilized with conventional PV panels in addition to building-integrated PV incorporated into the vision glass of the facade. The building will “glow” at changing displays reflecting levels of sunlight and natural energy received each day.
Lighting efficiency and innovation displayed in real time creates a resounding connection between the environment, sustainable energy, and human experience. The building is anticipated to consume no fossil fuels except where required by building code, and the design team is otherwise targeting a carbon neutral outcome.
