The Institute for Defense Analyses headquarters is shaped by light as much as by form. Across the two-building campus, daylight and electric light work together to soften a highly secure environment and create a sense of openness, calm, and continuity.

Light gathers at the places where people move and meet. It traces the central stair, frames the elevator halls, and settles across broad architectural surfaces, making circulation feel intuitive without becoming overstated. In galleries and shared spaces, more focused illumination draws attention to art, material, and moments of pause.

The atmosphere shifts gently throughout the day. Clear, even light supports concentration and exchange, while quieter layers bring warmth to cafés, informal meeting areas, and spaces overlooking the courtyard. Throughout the headquarters, light gives the workplace a measured rhythm, balancing precision with comfort and making a complex environment feel composed, connected, and human.
