G. Ryan Smith

Ryan started as an intern with CM KLING + ASSOCIATES INC, in 2012, while he pursued his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University. After graduating in 2014, he joined as a full-time designer.

Ryan’s portfolio includes hospitality, corporate, mixed-use, residential, religious, and civic projects including several award-winning buildings. Recently, the American Greetings Headquarters in Cleveland, OH won the IES DC Candela Award.

Ryan continues to work with theatres in Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland as a Lighting Designer and Projection Designer.  His designs are seen at Keegan Theatre, Forum Theatre, Rorschach Theatre, Gallaudet University, and Georgetown University. While at Georgetown, Ryan’s work in theatrical and dance productions, explored the impact of lighting on mood, spatiotemporal placement, and the focus of a performance piece. He studied lighting’s influence as it is presented to and interacts with the viewer. His interest for light and visuals in theatre continues informed his work in architecture and site design.
